Delivery of Airbus helicopters to the Mexican Navy concludes

Mexico, Dec. 6 (Notimex) .- Airbus delivered the last two AS565 MBe Panther helicopters to the Mexican Navy, after which in 2014 became a launch customer of this new version with an order of ten units.

"Aware of the importance of their missions, we have put at your disposal a technical and logistical support equipment in Veracruz 24 hours a day. Some 30 pilots have also been trained, many of them with specific training in SAR missions and in flights with night vision goggles,” said the company's vice president of sales for Latin America, Mesrob Karalekian.

In a statement, he said that the first four helicopters were delivered in 2016 and the remaining six throughout the current year.

He pointed out that the units were divided into three naval bases in the states of Veracruz, Sonora and Michoacán. The helicopters have carried out SAR, surveillance, reconnaissance and air patrol missions, as well as training activities.

For his part, the General Coordinator of the Naval Aeronautics of the Navy of Mexico, Admiral José María García Macedo, said that the arrival of the Panther MBe has increased the operational capabilities of Naval Aviation.

"It is a modern and multi-purpose helicopter that we can use both in maritime and terrestrial environments and in a wide variety of missions such as search and rescue at sea, support for the civilian population in areas affected by natural disasters, works of external load and even air ambulance."

Each Panther helicopter makes an average of 300 flight hours a year, with modern mission equipment that includes advanced avionics, a FLIR camera for SAR missions and surveillance during the night, the possibility of installing up to four stretchers for aeromedical evacuations, and salvage lathe with cargo hook, detailed.

The company explained that the AS565 MBe Panther is a mixture of new and proven technologies that offer more value to operators, the two Safran Arriel 2N engines improve their performance in hot and high conditions and can develop a speed of up to 278 kilometers per hour with a maximum range of 780 kilometers.

In addition, it has a new main transmission box, a tail rotor of last generation and a four-axis automatic pilot that reduces the workload of the crew and simplifies the most demanding missions, which make it safer, more profitable and easier to operate, he said.
