Mexico, Jan. 12 (Notimex).- Mexico ranks as the fourth producer of grapefruit in the world with just over 424 thousand tons, that is, one in every 20 tons of citrus comes from the Mexican countryside, being the state of Veracruz the one who leads the production.
According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, this fruit, which is part of the family of citrus fruits: oranges, tangerines, limes and lemons, besides being a healthy product for consumption, is used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry , for example, its aroma is used in the production of essential oils for aromatherapy.
Also, the extract of its seeds is used as a remedy against fungi and an infusion prepared with its flowers as a treatment for insomnia.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (Sagarpa, for its acronym in Spanish) said that there are different varieties of grapefruit, classified by the tone of its pulp that can be white, pink and red.
The dependence said in its blog that this citrus contains vitamin C, vitamin A, minerals, flavonoids and folic acid, help reduce cholesterol, lose weight, moisturize the skin and prevent diseases, as well as prevent the development of premature aging.
It points out that the grapefruit has been given a slimming power, since its high contents of potassium and enzymes facilitate the elimination of fats, besides that it is constituted in 90 percent of water, so they naturally fight the ailments of the urinary system.
