Avocado reduces cholesterol and glucose

Mexico, Aug. 9 (Notimex).- Consuming 100 grams of avocado daily, approximately a quarter of it, helps lower cholesterol and glucose levels, as well as improving blood circulation.

Similarly, it helps to reduce nervous tension and depression, as well as promote good digestion and protect the stomach from ulcers and gastritis.

Rocio Romero Valdovinos, nutritionist at the Regional General Hospital number 1 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS, for its acronym in Spanish) in Tijuana, Baja California, added that due to its high caloric content, this food should not be abused, especially if overweight or obesity is present.

The specialist suggested that athletes who are very exhausted and spend many calories should get used to avocado consumption.

In children and adolescents, it helps to an optimal development, since it is a food rich in potassium, iron and magnesium, important for these stages of growth.

It is also recommended for those suffering from anemia, because the avocado reduces the presence of digestive disorders by its alkaline action, softening and protective of mucous membranes, also contains two grams of fiber, which improves the digestion and in people with diabetes lowers the glucose (sugar in the blood).

Avocado is rich in minerals such as potassium, magnesium, necessary for the transmission and generation of nerve impulse, for normal muscle activity and intervenes in the water balance inside and outside the cell, added the nutritionist.

She explained that magnesium is related to the functioning of intestines, nerves and muscles, is part of bones and teeth, improves immunity and has a mild laxative effect.
