Mexico, Oct. 11 (Notimex).- Tequila, one of the star products of the Mexican agroindustrial sector, gains more space in the international market with crystalline tequila, which is located in the premium category.
"The category of crystallines, which is relatively new in tequilas, is one of the fastest growing in the national and international market," said Public Relations Manager for Casa Cuervo, Andres Lebrija.
Within the framework of the presentation of the new Crystal Traditional Tequila, said that this drink, which enjoys international recognition and since 1974 has a designation of origin, has achieved prestige in recent years and today is already at the height of whiskey or vodka.
"The market is changing and we want to give the public what they are looking for. We found a soft, premium tequila in the lens, but we have an assembly of two tequilas from home, " he added.
Under the label "Made in Mexico", tequila is sold in more than 98 countries, which in 2016 alone reached sales of more than 196 million 736 thousand liters and an estimated value of one thousand 203 million dollars.
In an interview with Notimex, Lebrija said that before there were only white tequilas, reposado, añejos and extra añejos, and with innovation in Cuervo, the first crystalline lens was created some years ago.
"Tequila has been internationally present, just with the crystalline has become a softer category, easier to take and has had greater acceptance in global markets," he said.
The different types of tequila produced in Mexico have managed to conquer palates from the United States, as the main market, as well as Germany, Spain, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Colombia, Canada and Brazil.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (Sagarpa, for its acronym in Spanish), these countries concentrate around 92.4 percent of Mexico's exports of this beverage worldwide, while the rest is divided into 88 nations more.
"The world of crystallines grew and became as important as a white tequila, reposado, añejo and extra añejo, in fact the crystalline is the one that advances the most inside the tequilas", considered the manager of Public Relations of Casa Cuervo.
Between 2013 and 2016, the average production of tequila in Mexico was 242.6 million liters, with an Average Annual Growth Rate for this period of 4.8 percent.
In addition, it has a certificate of Denomination of Origin, through which it can only be produced in 181 municipalities in five states of the country: Jalisco, Nayarit, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas and Michoacán.
