Mexico, Apr. 12 (Notimex) .- The rehabilitation for people suffering Parkinson is a determining factor in the quality of life of people with this neurodegenerative disease, which affects mainly men and women over 60 years of age.
For this reason, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS, for its acronym in Spanish) reported that for its rightful claimants has the Abnormal Movement Clinic, at the XXI CenturyNational Medical Center.
In that space, it said in a statement, diagnosis and treatment are provided timely, that manages to reduce the discomfort of patients.
Raul Carrera Pineda, head of the Neurology Service of the Specialty Hospital, explained that the main symptoms that people with Parkinson's have are stiffness and tremor in the arms and legs, especially during rest, slowness or clumsiness in movements, difficulty when walking, decrease in movement and postural instability.
Because there is no way to avoid this neurodegenerative disease, he insisted that in case of presenting any symptom, it is necessary to go to the doctor, since there are medications that help improve the quality of life of patients.
Among the treatments offered by Social Security are the brain neurostimulator, which helps to provide a better quality of life and reduces symptoms. "However, until today there is no treatment to cure it," said the IMSS specialist.
He stressed that rehabilitation is a fundamental point and those patients who exercise have a better quality of life, unlike those who do not.
At the Clinic of Abnormal Movements of the Institute, between 900 and one thousand consultations are given per year for Parkinson's disease.
